Deadline to Apply for Four Foundation Prizes and Two Scholarships

The New Brunswick Foundation for the Arts (NBFA) which administers and promotes four Foundation Prizes and two Scholarships is pleased to announce June 29, 2009, as the deadline to submit applications and nominations to these juried awards:

  • Municipality of the Arts of the Year Award: up to $10,000
  • TD Canada Trust Arts Organization of the Year Award: $3,000
  • The Arts Partnership Award: $5,000
  • The Arts and Cultural Management Award: $5,000
  • The Charlotte Glencross Scholarship for Professional Development in the Arts: $1,000
  • The Nel Oudemans Memorial Scholarship for Advanced Studies in Fine Craft: $1,000

The NBFA is more active than ever in supporting the work of New Brunswick municipalities in keeping with arts and cultural development.

For the first time since the Municipality of the Arts of the Year was created in 2002, this year's winning municipality will be awarded a unique gift, either a commissioned work by a well-known New Brunswick artist or an opportunity to host a New Brunswick artistic performance or cultural event, with a value of up to $10,000.

Established in 2002, the TD Canada Trust Arts Organization of the Year Award recognize achievements and contribution to the literary arts, performing arts (music, theatre and dance), cinematic arts (film and video), visual arts, craft, community cultural development or arts education.

Added this year to the roster of Foundation prizes are the Arts Partnership Award and the Cultural Management Award.

The Arts Partnership Award is awarded to recognize a public sector or private organization or institution, for the significant impact it has made through its innovative and unique contribution to raising the public profile of arts and culture in New Brunswick. When choosing the recipient, consideration will be given to the total involvement of the organization, in areas such as, employee participation, monetary contributions, in-kind support of professional services or products, creation of jobs, and, inclusion of the art in the organizational culture.

The Arts and Cultural Management Award is awarded to recognize an individual who is the manager or the executive director of an arts organization. The award is given to celebrate excellence in professionalism, leadership, management, promotion, and exceptional contribution to the arts and cultural sector in New Brunswick.

For the eighth time, the Nel Oudemans Memorial Scholarship will be awarded this year to a student pursuing advanced studies in fine craft. The value of the scholarship is $1,000, up from $500.

Last, a new scholarship in the name of Charlotte Glencross, the late Miramichi born textile artist, art administrator, arts educator and champion of the arts, will be awarded to an upcoming practitioner in the arts. The value of the Charlotte Glencross Scholarship for Professional Development in the Arts is $1,000.

The NBFA prizes and scholarships will be awarded to the recipients in the Fall of 2009.

The NBFA is relying on individuals and non-profit arts and cultural organizations to nominate qualified candidates for consideration for the awards. Selection will be made by a jury panel of local government, business and arts leaders.

Established in 1992, the New Brunswick Foundation for the Arts is a public charitable foundation created to encourage and promote the artistic and cultural life of New Brunswick.
